Willow Class – Sportsmanship

Willow class have been visited by story teller Steve Manning. He has told the children a variety of different stories about animals. The children then drew. pictures of some one the characters from the stories they heard. A great afternoon had by all. www.stevemanningstorytelling.co.uk
Children in Willow class have produced some beautiful art work using rollers and splodgers. They have explored textures and colours. The children started by choosing objects that would create interesting patterns. Once the base patterns were dry the children discussed what shapes they could see and decided on a dragon, solider and flowers. The children…
The five senses. In science we have been looking at the five senses, we used our sense of smell to identify some food and drink items. The children then looked at adjectives to describe the different items “sweet, zesty, fresh and herby”
The children in year 1 have been working hard to become independent writers. The children use word mats to support this. Here is a recent example of some beautiful writing.
Harvest Festival. Well done to all the children for an amazing performance in the church on Monday to celebrate harvest. The children have worked really hard to learn songs, lines and dance’s. The children spoke very confidently and they were very proud to show off their amazing art work.

The lady from SCARF (Relationships and Health Education) came to talk to us about keeping our bodies healthy. The children learnt about the role of our bones, heart, lungs, stomach , intestines and brain. Theatre Alibi visited Kenton Primary. We loved listening to the story telling and enjoyed the beautiful songs and dancing. Willow children commented on how they loved to see beautiful colours and material appear from underneath the actors’ clothes.
All week, children from across the school have been taking part in special activities which all have a link to science as part of Science Week.
