Cherry Class

Welcome to Cherry Class!

Teachers – Mrs Sue Narramore & Mr Jon Ball

Cherry Class Curriculum

Autumn Term 2020

Welcome to Cherry Class!  We are delighted to welcome the children back to school after the summer holidays and hope that any questions you may have about the structure and the routines in Cherry Class will be answered here.

The children in the class will be taught by Mrs Narramore except for Monday afternoons, when Mrs Baker will teach RE and computing, and Friday afternoon when Mr Ball will teach science and music.  Mr Tyrrell teaches a PE session on a Tuesday afternoon.

This half term our topic is ‘Heroes’ which will include learning about ourselves.  Our aim initially is to ensure that the children are feeling confident, resilient and have good self-esteem after recent events.  The academic expectations will be gently increased as the children are ready.  This approach has been recommended to us by the Government and child psychologists based on scientific evidence of children’s wellbeing and brain development, allowing the children to make maximum progress in the longer term.

The topic overview below will give a brief description of what will be covered.

As you know, we are trying to reduce the amount going home from school, so homework will be on line.  Details will follow soon.

The children will be bringing home two reading books regularly as outlined in the recent letter – one book to love, one to support their phonic learning.

PE is on a Tuesday afternoon with Mr Tyrrell and the children should come into school in their PE kit and stay in it for the day.  Please also ensure children with long hair have it tied back on a Tuesday.  There will be another activity session during the week which we will do in our normal uniform.

Children should bring a named water bottle into school on a Monday, which will be washed and refilled daily.  They will be sent home on a Friday.  We have the opportunity for a school snack in the morning.  If the children would prefer their own, or wish to bring another for the afternoon, they are welcome to bring a fruit based snack in.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please do get in contact.

Best wishes

Sue Narramore and the Cherry team.
