EYFS Transition

Dear Parents and Carers,

A big welcome to you and your child to Kenton Primary School. We are looking forward to getting to know all of you and to supporting your child to progress on their learning journey.

Due to the current climate we find ourselves in, we are unable to provide our normal transition program. However, we have been working hard, to try and find solutions for this. Below is a list of what we are proposing to help your child make the transition to our school.

Firstly, we will be posting video clips below of Miss Burrows reading a story, in order to help familiarise your child, with their class teacher. For those children who attend Playbox, we will also be directing them to the story clips, so they can show the children.

We will also post a video showing a tour of the school for both you and your child.

Usually we would hold a parents information evening, in place of this we will again post a video of the class teachers explaining different routines, and answering questions which normally occur. The week following this video clip, we will then organise a zoom chat with Miss Burrows and any parents and children who wish to ask questions, say hello or just make contact. This will be an individual meeting rather than all parents at the same time.

Hopefully in September we will find ourselves in a position where we can then offer transition visits, based upon the format we usually use. We are aware how this could be changeable and will keep you up to date with any changes as soon as possible. We are working on the assumption that children will still need to be in small groups in our classrooms in September.

This is what September may look like:

  • Week 1: Thursday 10th OR Friday 11th September – 2.00pm – 3.30pm New Foundation children visit Kenton Primary School and have a chance to join in activities in Willow Class – parents to drop them off and return to collect them at 3.30pm.
  • Week 2::Monday 14th OR Thursday 17th September- 9.00am – 10.30am New Foundation children visit Kenton Primary School and have a chance to join in activities in Willow Class. ALSO Tuesday 15th OR and Friday 18th September- 9.00am – 12.00 all new Foundation children visit Kenton Primary School for the morning – parents to drop them off at Willow Class and return to collect them at 12.00.
  • Week 3:: Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd September OR Thursday 24th and Friday 25th September – 9.00am – 12.30pm. New Foundation children visit Kenton Primary School for the morning and stay for lunch – parents to drop them off in Willow Class. School lunch menus will be sent home for choices to be made. Children may have a packed lunch if they prefer. Children will go straight home after eating.
  • Week 4: w/b Monday 28th September children to start school hopefully full-time, but maybe part-time still.

As things stand at the moment, unfortunately we will not be able to allow parents to stay for lunch, as we would normally. Due to government regulations, we imagine we will not be able to have all the children in school at the same time, therefore we are working on having 2 groups, working up to full-time hours. We will ensure after talking to parents that your child will have at least one special friend in their group.

We will endeavour to keep you updated and send details out as to what group and therefore day your child will be attending − please contact Miss Burrows or myself via the Administrators at Kenton if you have any queries about this.

We look forward to meeting you.

Yours sincerely,

Amanda Somerwill – Executive Headteacher
