The three core functions of the governing board are:

- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
All governors attend the Local Governing Board meetings which take place at least twice a term. Some also serve on the Pay and Performance Committee. The Pay and Performance Committee meets twice a year.
