Planting the Kenton Forest!

Back in the autumn term, the school applied to the Woodland Trust for a pack of trees. Time rolled on and last week 420 tiny trees arrived at school!

Dea, from the Woodland Trust, had already arranged to come into school and help us plant them. She had marked out an area on the school field that has already had several planting sessions over the last few years. The new trees extended this zone and filled in some gaps where other trees hadn’t developed.

As there were so many, every child in the school got to plant at least one, and usually several young trees, in what turned out to be a marathon planting day for children, staff and parents!

The species planted included crab apple, black thorn, hazel and dog rose, so in a few years time, there will some edible rewards!
